OCR: Agaves are long-lived but slow growing succulent plants. They have thick, juicy leaves filled with large cells that store water. Agave leaves are stiff and sharply pointed and grow close to ground in rosette fashion. The outer layer of leaves is thick, containing waxy waterproofing material. Leaves of agaves have fewer pores than ordinary leaves and like cacti and other succulents, they 'breathe' by taking in carbon dioxide at night instead of during day.
